I've seen the same thing. I think as a contractor you are expected, by management at least, to be "better" than the regular employees. They're paying you more money so you ought to be, right? :-) As a contractor I think I'm given a bit of leeway because of the simple fact I am a contractor, but also because they see what I'm doing and approve. It's funny though; I've also been treated as little more than a coffee table by some clients, but that's been awhile as I think I've moved up the client ladder so-to-speak...
