I'm not trying to force my beliefs on you... but it sounds as if there are optimistic/pessimistic issues in the current app plus a need for transactions at the least. If this is so, then encapsulating the logic in a single trigger or method assists you in preparing for C/S. You should be able to do this easily as part of your improvements.
