Now this is driving me crazy. I've written an app (for internal use,
logging workhours) in FPD26/VFP, and a part of it should export data to
my partner, who adores Excel. Now there's a workbook with several sheets
corresponding to my tables or views on my tables.
I've defined updatable views thru ODBC, and written an export routine.
Now the maddening part: for the customers table/sheet pair it all works
fine. For the apps table/sheet it seemingly updates it, when I close and
reopen the view it either shows no change, or the last record repeated
all over; the other views don't work yet as I've been thru some
structure changes and when I try to insert or gather a record, it
reports data type mismatch - I'll handle that later.
For the apps table I've been getting an "Update conflict" until I've set
the updatetype to 1 (the ODBC message seemed to vanish). A thing that
seemed to do the trick was a counter in the 1st column of the sheet, and
using that as the primary key - still, only while it was pre-filled from
within Excel, and it's numeric (customer table). The key field is not
updated in either case.
OK, I'll be off for another weekend in Hungary (szia, Béla), and
hopefully return and find some reply with someone telling me what an
idiot I was, that I should RTFM - never mind, I accept it all in
advance, just gimme some hint. TIA.
