Al,
This is for a vertical app with about 1000 users. It began life as a 2.5 DOS app and contains about 700 documents. Currently all these have been converted from DOS frx files and are now in a ?? and ? format containing printer commands (micro line feeds to positing the text). For each new document we have been first doing the doc with the DOS report writer and then converting them into a text file that is sent directly to the printer. This process is straining our resources and we are finding it difficult to keep up with the demand for new contracts etc. Also, many clients want to edit the files for their own use and it is difficult for them to understand and modify the text format. In addition, we are finding that on some systems the text files are prone to get print spool errors and other such things. I would like to be able to deal directly with a frx file. It seems strange to me that VFP does not make this easier or at least give us a process that is understandable and straighfoward. I would very much like to do this without having to use a third party product that in itself may cause unforseen problems on some systems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Note: almost all of our users have OKIDATA 320 printers of one variety or another. At the point of sale they may print as many as 15 documents which will vary from 6 to 20 inches in length.
A problem is a problem only as long as it has a possible solution. Lacking that, it becomes a FACT!
