Nigel;

Now Fernando’s original post said one thing and meant another. In the mean time several good replies were given based upon experience. In this medium we call the Internet it is sometimes difficult to express what you mean as others may take it in an entirely different light.

What I do not understand is your comment “Shouting about VFP is not good for VFP itself - it only serves to alienate the VFP community.” I will say that the VFP forum consists of a very passionate group of developers and we have gone over many topics concerning the virtues of VFP to the point of nausea.

The VFP forum would seem the best place to promote VFP. You could go to another forum – VB for example – and start an argument. I realize we have had our share of arguements on this forum from those that do and do not promote VFP as a cure all to the worlds problems. Every tool has a use and some are better fit for a specific task than others. Using the “right tool” can be a very political experience, as many of us know.

Perhaps the persons best able to answer the original question are those that have used other tools and can compare technologies. As for myself, I have used many tools and because I work for a large corporation I must use our "corporate approved tool" called Visual Interdev 6.0. The good part is that I am paid to do this. No one in his/her right mind should ever have to use this “tool” to create complex enterprise solutions! That may say a great deal about my present mental state. After 13 months on one project (we went live June 29th) we are moving to the next phase.

For my consulting contracts I choose the best tool for the job taking into consideration the clients needs, and budget. I will not use assembler when a high level language is more appropriate.

Have a good day.

Tom
