I always use Optimistic Table Buffering. With table buffering you can move the record pointer and not trigger an update. Also, Optimistic locking holds the lock only for the duration of an update. OTOH, Pessimistic locking has the potential to bring down an entire network as someone may begin an edit then walk away locking everyone else out.
