While we're on the subject, I did a bit more testing of WinZip and PKZip for Windows. WinZip had a very recent update on their site. 6.3 is out of beta and is now current. PKWare still has the year-old version of PKZip for Windows at their site. I got a couple of different errors, and generally erratic behavior, when trying to use PKZip for Windows to zip a single very large file onto diskettes, spanning three. Winzip did it properly. It is clearly much improved since the buggy 6.1. The one thing I didn't like is that WinZip requires an add-on module to make self-extractors. I have advised our system people to purchase winZip and use it for routine compression around the office.
