I think Seagate Analysis (freeware) can help you. You can find it in
www.download.com. This allows the user to drag-and-drop variables, and get results according to variables the user chooses. They call it "data-cube", but I think this would be approximately the same as cross-tab: the idea is that the user select what variable(s) appears across the top, and what variable(s) at the left. The user can also design his/her own reports.
