Hi Steve,

You might want to look at using reactors in lisp or arx that would call a vb object that updates the access table. I haven't used reactors myself, but you can think of them like events that autocad objects expose.

You could also see dotsoft www.dotsoft.com has something that might help you out. He has an app called AutoCell that works similar to what you describe but uses excel.
