Linux still feels unfamiliar to me, but it's nice to have a tool like Kylix to play with. C++ is too much of a stretch for me. I created my first Hello World! app within minutes of download. Nothing to be proud of, but at least it didn't take hours. I want to work with real data when I get a chance.

Like VFP, Kylix has PEMs and the usual SDI and MDI interfaces, modal or not. A simple intro book on Pascal and/or Object Pascal will get you up to speed on the language in a very short time.

Which database is easiest for working with Kylix? Interbase?

Beyond a doubt, seamlessly via IBX, although it and others will work via dbExpress as well. The OpenSource version of InterBase is codenamed "FireBird" and is at:

IBPhoneix is shipping it on a CD.

Here is where InterBase 6 is found. It is the commerical version supported by Borland. Also on this page is a diagram showing connectivity options.

I plan to use PostgreSQL for my backend needs.
