Perry,

Sorry about the layoff. That's never any fun and it always amazes me how callous some can be.

It sounds like NZ would be a great place for a vacation. I have heard that it is absolutely beautiful there but it's possible to get a case of island fever if you're not careful, though not as easily as on Oahu since it's much smaller.

>I've been to both London and New Zealand in the last couple years. NZ was only several months ago. When I went to the UK about 4 yrs ago, my UK$150 translated to about US$225. Luckily it was business, so it wasn't too expensive for me. Except that UK$150 got a kinda crappy hotel room.
>
>The NZ trip in May, NZ$150 per nite hotel room was about US$70 per nite. And it was a great room. I could have an excellent dinner with several cocktails for NZ$40, or about US$18....and they don't tip over there. But if I really liked the service I would give a buck or 2.

>The thing that really, really sucks is that I got laid off 2 weeks after returning from NZ, and haven't had too much success finding work. I really should have looked at the employement situation while in NZ. It was a great place.

>>>If you can pay a developer in NZ$, you'll be paying the equivalent of 30 pence or 40US cents. A very good developer getting (say) NZ$50,000 - NZ$70,000 is therefore being paid US$20,000 to $30,000 per annum.
>>>
>>>Suffice to say we still do most development in New Zealand.

Best,
