Two thoughts, after looking over your code, and considering I am using Sql passthrough, I get cursors not dbf.s (simple enough to conver it to a dbf, to do what you have done. ) but, just thinking..
I think I could use the alter field on a cursor, to convert a general field to a memo.

Either way, that solves half the problem .. getting binary data from the server.

Putting it up to server, using sql passthough, at least so far has not worked for me. using binary data, becuase the binary data, conflicts with my sql command.

Have you been able to transit / transfer binary data to a server, using sql passthough ? or are you using remote views ... to post data ?
