Either I am not following what you are saying, or you are creating a self-inflicted problem. You can name the ODBC DSN anything you want. You do not have to name your connection in the DBC the same as the ODBC DSN. This connection name is never seen by the user. Just modify your connection so it uses the new new name of your ODBC DSN.
