Hope your father did not call anyone from the Southern States a "Yank". Could have been a problem.
Sub group...hmmm. Why do we have Canadians and French Canadians? Are those the only kinds? This might be more of a Canadian "thing". We sometimes use the term Irish/American, etc. but I have never heard Canadian/American. An interesting day for questions.
