>>>Think about this. . . back in the late 60s and early 70s the Japanese made small tin-can cars that were the laugh of everyone. But prople began to realize that these things rarely broke and were very relaible transportation, even though they weren't that pretty (gaudy). Soon they heavily outsold the American cars, and it has taken over a decade for the American manufacturers to regain serious lost ground.

>>Jim,
>> Well, this is from a guy who drives a 63 VW Bug.. I know that there are problems with VFP, but hey if you don't like the enviroment, MS is NOT holding you here.. I am sorry to sound that way, but I have been working with the Fox since 1.02... I have seen lots of problems with Fox (ever try getting it to run with OS/2?? Getting support from MS was a no go [Not a supported OS to be using ANY MS product]...)
>>
>> We are supposed to be able to solve problems, so that is my take on this type of situation.. If MS starts to make rumblings about VFP going away, then we need to show them that WE support VFP, and need it.. But if you look at the rest of the development tools out there.. Less seems to be the product we as developers are getting.. Manuals are at a premiuem, support is at a price, and bugs.. Well, the more features we want, the more bugs we'll be getting..
>>
>>I also know, not all the features in VFP will be used by us all, but until they make component based development tools, we will be getting bigger and robuster development tools..

Jim,
Why do you think you DON'T have a fighting chance?? There are a lot of developer sworking with VFP, and they seem to be scraping by with the knowledge available to them thru the docs, the people they can communicate with online and their exeperience..
I am all for improvements, but only as long as they do not do too much damage to what I already have working.. But, in the case of VFP, I will give you that there are some problems, but as many others have stated, it is better now than it was a while back, where some trade rags went so far as to say Foxpro was dead.. Maybe Foxpro 2.x is dying due to the way it works with Win 95/NT, but if MS is making Version 6 while we speak (type??) and 7 is on the board, we seem to be getting more life from VFP than many thought possible..

I am also thankful that there enough people using VFP, that there can be Websites like this to help those with problems.. I am glad there are here, since expecting MS to help is not a good idea... Since the days MS took over FP 2.x, we had the forums to exchange ideas and get help, since Foxpro developers knew they could get better help from developers USING Foxpro than the company that made it..

Now that there are sites like this, we still will need the manuals, but can come here and share the info of many developers.. Yes, I'd love perfect documentation and a perfect working version of VFP, but I will settle on a good working version of VFP and free help like this..

Thanx!
