Good point. I saw the announcement that it was going OpenSource but I haven't had an opportunity to download it and play with it yet. Has anyone else?

If you know C++ then KDevelop 2.2 against PostgreSQL is a great solution. 99% of the cash ends up in your pockets, the client pays you for your app and you can install Linux on their PCs as a free service. A win-win for both you and your clients.

>>>PostgreSQL is very impressive and should not be taken lightly as an alternative to DB2, Oracle, or SQL Server. I'm hoping that Red Hat can come to better terms with Frank Batten Jr. to fold PostgreSQL's dev team in Red Hat. I'd hate to see any code forking with the Red Hat Database. Funny thing is that Frank Batten Jr. was Red Hat's first private investor (he still owns 17% of the company) and resigned from the board when Red Hat refused to offer PostgreSQL for fear of pissing off IBM and Oracle. I'm glad things are changing because PostgreSQL needs a good distro and Red Hat's RHN is awesome.

>>I agree. Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, Sybase and the rest are in the process of getting blind-sided. Oracle especially, since they have a large market share and pinned their license fees to the speed of the CPU on which Oracle is installed - a really greedy, greedy policy. Same for XP. The consumer is beginning to ask "why?" to the outrageous license fees, to say nothing of the EULA-DMCA combo that has given the First Amendment a big whack and has increased intrusiveness.
