I never thought about this as "crashing" my microwave, but it does happen with some frequency. If I cook something (like a potato) for 10 minutes or so, then try to restart it, sometimes the timer will run, but the cooking power doesn't. As I understand it, it has something to do with humidity inside the microwave, but whatever it is, it's a PITA.
BTW, when some consumer device fails for me, I'm frequently frustrated that I can't simply post the bug the way I do with a VFP bug, and get it dealt with. <g>
