We have an Oracle Server here at my company, but I am still using local tables. My boss thinks changing to C/S is not a great priority, nor do I - but I would like other people's opinions on this, especially people who have made the change to C/S.
From my limited knowledge, our cost is: 1) making some (a lot of?) changes to the application, for the technological change, 2) buying additional client licenses for Oracle.
And some of the benefits would be: less data corruption, change structure while users are logged in, hot backup, protection against unauthorized access.
I don't really have a serious problem with VFPs limitations; for instance, the largest table has about 100,000 records, or about 4 MB. Also, I can do structure changes, and backups, somewhere around midnight, with an automated procedure. (I can also do a backup while users work, but I don't think the results are completely trustworthy.)
TIA, Hilmar.
