I've occassionally gone to the extent of disallowing certain colour combinations that are going to be a problem - in particular, matching foreground & background colours for text fields, but as you say, a "set default" is always there - it's preferable to telling someone to delete the .ini file (or whatever), even if that's what it does itself.
