Hola Augusto,

The scanner software still needs to be installed. Most scanners use what's called a "twain interface". Windows comes with an OCX that can communicate with this interface and therefore control the scanner (i.e. have it start a scan, set the scanning parameters, etc.).

Now, even though the scanner driver is installed, the OCX has the ability to do a full scan without showing the user the scanner's application; just a little dialog with nothing more than a thermometer control that shows the scan's progress.

Also keep in mind that some scanners have default settings that are NOT changeable and saveable (HP). In those cases you will need to either adapt to what they offer or have your app call up the scanner's full interface and instruct the user on how to change the settings.

The OCX you are looking for is called either Wang Imaging or Kodak Imaging. In win98 it gets installed if you installed the Imaging application.

This OCX comes with a help file that's not great, but should get you started. The file you're looking for is c:\windows\help\IMGOCXD.HLP.

Good luck!

Alex
