>Gray, can you figure out which module is causing the problem? If you "watch quickly" you may figure it out as it flies past. If not, then make a small change in each item, one at a time, so it will be caught in a "non-rebuild-all" compile.

found it. thanks barbara. it was actually to do with visual source safe. a classlib had been added to vss that was in another project. it was in the project that i was trying to build but excluded from compile. the classlib wasn't marked as being part of VSS even though it was added to VSS in the other project. i manually added that classlib to source contol and the problem went away.
