Could it be, that your grid is disabled or columns are disabled? I know, we have the same effect, when columns are disabled.

The grid, the column and the text control are have enabled=.t., I am using the readonly property to decide if the text is editable. The weird thing is I create one grid and the dbl-click works as expected. I add another grid and no dbl-click. I know it is something I am doing, but I have never seen what causes it.
