My commemorative CD-ROM of IE 4.0 came in yesterday so I installed everything, including making it my desktop. Over all I love the new version. It has some problems, at least on my machine.
First, when I shutdown IE4 fires all the programs in my startup folder plus it fires the program on the load and run lines in my win.ini, and finished off with the "Explore IE 4" app, returning me to my desktop without shutting down. When I shutdown the second time it works as it should. However, when I boot up again I usually have to try it two or three times before a get a clean desktop. Sometimes the video has to be reslected, sometimes it hangs on the Medi-kit software than comes with my Sony VAIO, sometimes I just get the Black screen of death (it back!).
After I first installed an clicked on the MS offer to connect to their special IE website where I could install some neat "channels" I found that every channel (or favorite from the favorite button, but not the favorite menu) would take me back to the MS home site. Talk about your captive audience.
During the install it said it was optimizing my pc.... It did. What ever it did my pc is running faster than it has in a couple of months, especially on line. They must be anxious to get me back to their MS home site again! :-)
Over all, I like it and I think I'll keep it.... if it will let me. If it doesn't then it looks like I will be reinstalling WIN95 again.
