I don't think that's it because within the WITH..ENDWITH I have many other instances of the same thing and they all work fine.

I don't know if they're necessary because I don't remember how "$" falls into the order of operations. I just add them for readability. Doesn't matter, though, because it still complains if I take the parens off. It just says "unrecognized phrase or keyword" instead.
