The minimum path (see SYS(2014)) is stored in the DBC.
David, the way I confirmed this was I create a DBC and added three tables. One in the directory with the DBC, one in a subdirectory, and one in an entirely different directory altogether. Then I did a CLOSE ALL, USE Temp.DBC, and browsed the table, looking at the property MEMO for the table objects. (And being careful to not change something accidentally, *g*.)
