We've been using Netware with our customers for years
and I can tell you that some versions of the client do
not perform well. Specifically, look for the following:

Client should be version 2.5 or 3.3; the interim releases had
numerous issues including file lock release problems. I
experienced these first hand.

Second, make sure that the clients are configured with
the following on the Advanced Settings tab:

Cache Writes: Off (Default = On)
Delay Writes: Off (Default = On)
File Cache Level: 0 (Default = 2)
Opportunistic Locking: Off (Default = On)
True Commit: On (Default = Off)

Some client versions don't support each setting.
