Right after I posted I noticed the new issue and then noticed Vlad's article - read it and am eagerly awaiting Aug issue.

But am still hoping to track the other article down - unless I dreamed it, it did an excellent job of explaining all the nuances involved in approaching grids from an 'instantiation' rather than create/edit in form editor.
