I agree completely on the potential benefit. It would be easier to disable a specific index in a SELECT - SQL statement than it is to delete an index!
Workarounds are sometimes possible, though. Like the one I mentioned in a specific example: "DocumentDate + 0 > ldDate" will only be "Optimized", in my understanding, if you happen to have an index on "DocumentDate + 0".
