We tried using HTML, but they didn't convert well. We haven't tried PDF. We have non-programmer people creating documents and they 'know' Word, so we'd like to keep using it.

PDF should be easy to do. The PDF Distillers work just like a printer driver. Just specify the file name to save to. With over 100 documents, you could write a sort program to automate the conversion to PDF.
