Maybe supplying a DVD version would allow you to enhance your product so that you are competing based on added functionality. There is more to competion that just meeting the current competitions product. Why would anyone ever need to switch, for example? Do they do the same sort of error correction it sounds like your app will do?

So far it seems like you're focusing on a fairly superfical issue. Their data fits on a CD and your data doesn't. That's identifying a requirement. If meeting the competition is important, then I'd probably be trying to figure out how the competition is doing it. If one is in dBASE, that should be relatively easy to try and read. You should probably own these products so you can see how they run. Put it under market research. :)
