This happened to me while checking out Linux and Samba. I believe what happened is that the internet services (or server) were not installed at the time you installed Linux.

I considered going back to the setup and installing these services but you really don't need them. Just go with linuxconf that will allow you to configure all settings in Samba. There is a graphical version also with the GNOME UI.

Maybe others with more experience with the OS can give you other pointers. I'm not a big user myself. Mostly I'm using it for testing database server software.
