pardon the interruption - i was asking a while back how to do the same thing.
i had a flexgrid, with data columns only 1 or 2 characters wide, in order to
show as many columns as possible (without H-scrolling).

wanted to add titles in the first row (fixed row) of each column, but did
not want the column width increased to accomodate the 10-12 character titles.

some insightful person here in this forum wisely suggested i display the
title vertically, by using word wrapping and put spaces in between every character.

e.g. "E - S t i m / I c e" "J n t . M o b." "M a s s a g e"

would dispaly as

    E   J   M
    -   n   a
    S   t   s
    t   .   s
    i   M   a
    m   o   g
    /   b   e
    I   .
    c   
    e

as i suspect is the case with you Minesh, it is not exactly the
appearance i was after, but ...
