You can still use it in VFP as all code works in VFP that worked in 2.6 (hope thats right), but if you take advantage of the OOP of VFP then you will need to revamp the way you do error checking as VFP is more complex. Right now I have never found a canned FPWERROR like 2.6 had for VFP. I am sure that when VFP is used by more and more then an error checking schmem will be developed that someday may be just drag and drop, but you would still have to taylor it for you system.
