I may be wrong but your first code looks familiar and returns the executable associated with the extension.

To explain further, what I trying to detemine is if a certain non VFP application has been installed and thus registered. The path returned is then used in the VFP application.

If the non VFP application has not been installed in its default folder, IF FILE() etc will fail. I have a .prg will will perform a recursive search for xxxx.exe, but that takes time, hence wanting to retrieve the information from the registry.
