we have taken to installing a Promise IDE ATA RAID controller with each installation, running mirrored drives. there is no noticeable slowdown on the network and if the server does have a hdd crash, your ass is covered real well. we then have a nightly backup as even more asscover. the raid cards are real inexpensive and we have had no failures thus far.
