A view will definitely help. I currently use one as soon as the number of records > 20,000, but perhaps I should use it for even smaller tables. I don't currently, because of the additional work.
The view should be optimized, like any query. Note that sometimes, Full Rushmore Optimization is slower than Partial Rushmore Optimization. See my recent entry in FAQ for details.
