Did you try this at all to see what the Report Writer will do? In my experience, people always learn better by experimenting than by simply asking.

The Report Writer uses the cursor in the current work area, unless the tablenames are included, in which case you get different results depending on how things are set up. That's why I always use SQL to select exactly the data I want immediately before running the report. The cursor created by the SQL is always the current work area after the SQL executes. If there is nothing in the report's data environment to change the work area then the repor will run from the cursor created by the SQL.
