Set a resource file and SET RESOURCE ON before the MODIFY COMMAND and SET RESOURCE OFF after it. The resource file may be read-only, so it cannot be modified. You can also include this file into your APP/EXE (so, it's read-only and it's always there).
This is a good technique for many settings that cannot be controled programatically from VFP (like the toolbar for print preview, for ex.).

I'm using MODIFY COMMAND to use the default VFP editor which works well, but sometimes I want the user to see the status line to know the column and line number without manually turning it on. This app has SET RESOURCE OFF so there is no FOXUSER to store preferences in.
