When a user hits a button on one of my web sites, which require a lenghly wait time. I dont want them to do it again. I give them a notice that they should wait...
its not that tricky.
using a redirect to a wait page, that once its compete the new page is rendered.

Here is a nice one I use

http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex11/dhtmlprogress.htm
you can adjust the timer to whatever you feel the correct wait time will be.

On a seperate note, re disabling the back button. I wouldnt do it. the back button is the most used button on any browser. And Many Many users know it better than anything else ... except maybe wwww.yahoo.com.

The back button is not your problem, its the ability to stop a second submtit.
Like other user have suggested, trap the ip address. or use a wait.

The only trick I have found, besides using a wait, progress bar, is think about how much data is be rendered, and cut it down, way down, to almost never have a wait. longer than a few seconds, for any page to be displayed....

In the beginning, there was a command prompt, and all was well.
