>>PS. We run Oracle 8i on a W2K server, but we haven't begun to stress it yet. If either tool doesn't work out, or becomes too expensive, we always have that $30 solution setting on the shelves, waiting patiently. :)

Well, we've already used it (SuSE 6.4 with the ReimanFS) to replace a Win98SE portal running WildCat. I wouldn't be surprised if an Oracle trial with the Linux 2.4.x kernel (SuSE) happens before the end of the year. The state has had a shortfall in tax revenues and they are looking for LOTS of ways to save money. The Largo, FL savings example has opened a LOT of bean counter eyes and could mean a lot of people keeping their job. The City of Lincoln has just rasied the "Occupation Tax" from 3% to 5.5%, which didn't go down very well. But, what can they do. Folks want those services, so they have to pay for them. Cutting expenses on expensive licenses is one way to do it. Last year I estimated that out of our $2.7M budget we could save nearly $1M in license fees and hardware upgrade costs. That would keep a lot of bean counters working... :)
