Apparently not that much better off, based on their (former) chairman's comments. But as to my guess on the matter, sure they would have been better off. Higher than $3.50 or wherever they are now - not likely. In the main they were crushed by MS when they arrogantly proclaimed that they would beat MS in the office-suite game. (and I have no problem with that as long as MS was doing it legally - that's business).

but it is bad business to crap on your good customers. You don't see it as crapping on them, but a multitude do.
