Whenever we need to pack the car, fill a box or encounter some other activity that requires thinking in three dimensions I seem to have a little extra ability to figure things out. My wife seems always surprised that I can usually get about 25-33% more 'stuff' in a given location than she can. It just seems to come naturally.

Doug;
In 1993 I was fed up with Silicon Valley so we sold our house and moved to Minden, Nevada. I calculated it would take three trucks and the movers said they could do it with two. Guess what? They brought two trucks and could not fit everything so I had to rent a truck, storage space and get help to move the rest of our goods. We had a time limit to leave - talk about pressure! This required returning at a later date and renting another truck.
I have liked to make to scale cutouts of our furniture and scale drawings of rooms in the house. Then I can move things around and see what will fit where. My wife does not agree with that - she would rather have me move the furniture and then realize it does not fit. Funny thing - the furniture ends up just like my drawing when all is said and done. Now I have not thought of chopping through a wall to make things fit.
