>>I just saw a study that said that folks who use their computers to multi-task are not as efficient as folks who do one task to completition before moving to the next. I think part of it is how much the PC slows down with so many apps open at once, and another part is something we all experience as programmers: when you are deep into the logic of a program and you are interrupted, it takes a few minutes to get your mind around the code again.

George;

I worked at a small software development company where you would be told by the owner an average of five times a day to stop what you were doing and work on another project. You would switch from VB, to VFP, to Visual Interdev, etc. The work load was determined by who the owner received a telephone call from last. Everytime the phone rang the other programmer and I would know something was going to happen! A third programmer had quit for this reason. Then the second programmer quit. I was the only programmer for about six months and then I left.

It is impossible to expalin to someone who does not understand what you are doing that switching projects about once an hour is not productive. When I was alone I had to change projects about every 30 minutes. As they say in Spanish que pena!

Tom
