Larry Ellison may be an AH, but Oracle has brought its pricing down to be competitive with the comparable MS products. MSDE is free, so is Personal Oracle. The server versions are competively priced as well when I last looked [about a year ago]. Before SQL Server became serious competition, Oracle pricing was at least an order of magnitude higher than those by MS.
