MicroSoft has updated programs (one of which is the kernel). Go to the Microsoft web site and download the current version. Be careful, I strongly recommend that you download only those components that you are having trouble with. I updated everthing and sure enough it screwed me over. You should at least update the kernel and winsock. I think that the Service pack has the updates (But make a full backup of your windows files and registry before doing anything!)
