It occurred to me after I posted that this is a possibility. I can only assume that there was a period of time between now and when I originally got a Passport (ages ago, and no profile then, either) when more personal information was required.

The XP/Passport integration has never changed, though. I've used Windows XP since before they integrated Passport (technically, it's the Windows Messenger that got integrated), and I've never had trouble surfing the web.

Possibly, but the consumer is still not charged. As I understand it, we'll make money from third parties, and charging consumers for optional services.
