With DOT Matrix printers, Windows will print the text in graphic mode which is much slower than text mode. Windows does come with a generic text mode printer driver which can be installed. This printer driver will print in text mode and be much faster.

Add a new printer and select Manufacture: Generic and Printers: Generic/Text Only.

Give it a try.
