If I understood correctly, you have a repeated procedure that rewrite maptemp.bmp file and print it. It seems that before writing the file to C:\temp\maptemp.bmp you should wait until printing/spooling is done.

I have a mapping application that can dump the contents of the screen to a BMP file. I write the file to C:\temp\maptemp.bmp. I then do an append general to a general field in a table and then print the map out on a report. This works fine for the first map report made from the application but after the first one I get write access errors and sometimes the application just hangs. I use the same file name every time to save on disk space because the files are relatively large. What could be causing this to happen?
