My experience with VFP programmers is that 90+% don't know enough C++ to write
anything useful. The same numbers apply to the VB community. I rarely, if ever, use C++ when developing database applications. Conversely, I only use C++, a cross-compiler, and Assembly when I am doing firmware.
Depending in which direction you want to take your career, you may want to learn Java instead of C++. C++ and Assembly are great if you are writing firmware and drivers, but maybe not the best choice if you are writing Web applications.
