Several times over the past couple of weeks I've addressed the switch of VFP product managers from Robert Green to Ken Levy. Most everyone is thrilled. It's usually prefaced with something like "...now we have a developer in product management that knows we need to market VFP!" or something similar.

In general, these people are missing the point -- if it weren't for Robert Green's efforts, we very well may not have a VFP today.

Below is part of an email of mine summarizing my personal feelings on the situation. I felt it was worth sharing.

Thanks, Robert, for all your efforts. You will be missed.

To be fair, Robert Green was a VFP developer out of Chicago who also
knew about the VFP marketing issues. In fact, we all should give Robert
Green full credit for pulling VFP back from the brink of death -- if it
weren't for his efforts, we wouldn't be celebrating Ken's hiring today.

What Ken brings is the knowledge of the product that is second to none
and the respect of most every VFP developer. That's not to say RG didn't
have respect -- he did -- but no one used any RG tools to make their
life easier or make more money<g>. A lot of VFP developers will give
back to Ken in a way that they wouldn't necessarily think to do for RG.
